Landfill Gas Collection

The decomposition of waste in a landfill releases gas as a natural by-product. This gas is made up of about 50 percent methane and 50 percent carbon dioxide with traces of nitrogen and oxygen. The abundance of methane in the gas creates a hazard because it is a combustible substance.

Due to this hazard, gas must be extracted from landfills through HDPE piping systems. These systems collect the gas inside the cell and direct it to be vented into the atmosphere, burned off through an external flare or converted into electricity. When dealing with high risk gases, safety and experience are crucial. Chesapeake Containment Systems uses superior quality HDPE that is resistant to corrosive chemicals and is able to withstand extreme environmental conditions.
